We were headed to the Italian joint across the street last week when we noticed this little place....and, of course...mental note - "must stop and eat fried fish later!"

So, we finally made it over here for lunch and despite coming at lunch time - I always hate coming to places like this for lunch since you can never eat like you want to...being that it's heavy food - I'm still glad we did.  We opted for the 8-piece combo to feed the four of us, and we ended up getting 10 pieces.  I guess he was out of Coleslaw so he felt bad and made up for it with extra fish...oh bummer...eh?  :)

Anyway, it was a mix of Cod and Haddock.  After having them side by side, I think I liked the haddock just a little better...it seemed a tinge sweeter.  Both very plain/simple fish but both perfect, in my opinion, for Frying. :).  Everything was delicious and I'd be more than happy to come here again, next time in Calgary.  The menu is quite extensive and I'd love to try more of his little fried goodies!

Also worth noting...the Fries!  I'm not sure if he's cutting these himself, but they sure looked and tasted like he did.

Lastly...his tartar sauce.  EXCELLENT!  Clearly he thought this through and actually experimented with some recipes/ideas.  Nothing is more frustrating than being served up some nice Fish-n-Chips only to be served up shitty house tartar...that sucks!  I hate having to punt to ketchup when the tartar sucks!  Here however, pour on the Tartar....it rocks.  I was dipping my fries in there...mixing it with ketchup, licking my plate...loved it!  It's a savory, slightly sweet, mustard-y based tartar that'll be sure to keep you dipping.

    enjoy.

Halibut house is not pretty, but food there sure counts as one of the best around...

This place reminds a typical shack cafe built by fishermen near the wharf to sell their products (and food made from them) fresh off the boat.

And it is quite a good luck to find this kind of fish and chip place in the middle of Calgary's part of Edmonton trail!

Service level corresponds to a typical family place, but at least it is polite and friendly. Prices are good, and portions substantial.

I would not hesitate to come again, and recommend you to at least check out the place - just don't come in big groups, since it is tiny, leaning on takeout side.

The only place to get better seafood is the coast. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is casual and the food is top notch.

I really wanted this place to be good. It has this hole-in-the-wall feel to it that made me hope it was one of those hidden gems.  Alas, not the case. The menu was true to its name with just about every type of fried fish or seafood you could think of plus a couple of appetizers, like fried zucchini.

Anyway, the batter itself was ok but what I didn't like was the over-used taste of the oil and the lack of flavor in the fish itself. I am all for re-using oil but it had a stale taste that was just unpleasant especially the more you ate it.

The zucchini and the fries were good enough but they were also over soaked in this over-used oil so they weren't a pleasant experience. I grew up in Georgia and I definitely  understand that the key to delicious fried food is one part batter and one part oil. This place was lacking on both accounts.

The reason it gets three stars is because the price was good, the service was great, and the menu was large. I wouldn't recommend you drive to this location but it's good enough for a quick meal if you're in the area.

If you're looking for a solid fish and chips dinner, this place is the place to go. Having driven by it countless times, but never being sure of the quality, we finally tried it after a friend recommended it.

The owner was very friendly, and the price is right. Along with a wide selection of various types of fish, you can also get fried shrimp, calamari, scallops, and more. They also offer deep fried mushrooms and zucchini sticks in generous portions!

I don't think there is anything on the menu that isn't deep fried, but it's not like I was looking for a salad when we walked in. Will definitely be going back, when a good deep-fried fix is in order! They also have some great option of hard ice cream at a great price - yum!!
